What have you been working on?

    Gratitude.

Finances: I finally managed to track my expenses and commit to a savings plan and just knowing what goes in and out and why…has been an interesting experience.

Exiting conversations and WhatsApp groups without feeling guilty, because though I choose to be part of some networks, my threshold for insults and vitriol from group members at other members-reading that and taking it in, is not my cup of tea.

A book, a story, yet to be published.

I guess this much is true, that not everything has to be revealed.

I want to visit any of these six places in Kenya where you can bungee jump.

  • I am reading Truth is the Arrow, Mercy is the Bow by Steve Almond

    October 16th, 2023

The book includes chapters on plot, character, and chronology, but travels far beyond the earnest intentions of most craft books. It includes essays on humor, sex, writer’s block, and the dividends of failure, as well as prompts to generate new work and a rollicking Frequently Asked Questions section. You’ll never think about writing the same way again.

As a Writer, you bet I’m taking notes…highlighting sections I am questioning all the while prepping for NanoWrimo.

    Laundry.

I am creating a mountain of dirty clothes in the other room, waiting to see what it’d be like when I run out of clothes to wear and when the weather is fine…I am good at putting it off truly.

If you had a million dollars to give away, who would you give it to?

And we are back with an answer to the ‘If’ question again.

It would be such a relief to invest in Africa, to make it easier for many to stay and thrive here- not just creation of jobs, improved healthcare, uphaul the education curriculum, make this a place where no one would look down on you or send you packing, because of the color of your skin.

You asked about a star, yet I heard a galaxy. I could not tell myself a lie, because it’s taken me years to get this far, my absolute favorite and very necessary thing to do is:

    sleep

Then right next to it, I love to do the following:

    write

read (currently loving Home coming by Luan Goldie)

    listen to music

    clean the house

For the love of body art, I’d love to know a thing or two about henna and draw some beautiful flower designs on my hand.

In what ways does hard work make you feel fulfilled?
    View all responses

I love sunshine and smiles and just like that I find joy in:

    • Committing to something; from planning to actually doing it and then taking in the results of it.
    • Making decisions- like taking that afternoon nap because I am exhausted, and my body is asking for rest.
    • Buying myself coffee and cake
    • Waking up to committing to meeting a dream, and going to bed knowing what more I have to do to achieve it.
    • Listening to my favorite songs
    • Earning, and being able to pay bills including that monthly Netflix bill that secures my access to KDrama series which by now I can attest that I can comprehend basic phrases in Korean.

What aspects of your cultural heritage are you most proud of or interested in?

I am a daughter of the Lake.

History says that my tribe, the Luo, who speak Dholuo, are River-Lake Nilotes and as such we are drawn to, revere, and reside along Nam Lolwe or Lake Victoria as the world knows it.

I love the flow and depth of Dholuo as a language, because there are many names of the same thing-for example a cat is not just a cat, it is: mbura, paka, ong’er mesa, pusi…

I love the way we revere nature and seasons, and for every birth our children are named in honor of the time and season they come into the world.

Don’t get me started on the food-especially the vegetables and how we make them…
